The Derby Stallion is a heartwarming family film about a teenage boy who beats the odds to become a winning steeplechase jockey. With a talented ensemble cast and a great storyline, this independent film has become a real success story.
Fifteen-year-old Patrick McCardle (Zac Efron, Hairspray, High School Musical) doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. With pressure piling up from his father (William R. Moses), an ex-professional baseball player, Patrick searches for his own identity. Houston Jones (Bill Cobbs), a misunderstood horse trainer whose sad and lonely past has given him an undesirable yet underserved reputation, introduces Patrick to the exciting world of steeplechase racing.
Although Houston's reputation concerns Patrick's mom (Tonja Walker) and dad, he convinces them to give him a chance to train with Jones --- not only to ride Steeplechase, but also to compete in the famous Derby Cup. Patrick's parents slowly learn how to support their son's dreams as he builds a magical and uncommon friendship with this seasoned jockey. |
